Once this information is received the 3MBS Recordings Administrator will email a Recording Release Form, which needs to be completed and signed at least two weeks prior to the concert. Only once the release form has been signed, will 3MBS formally commit to recording the concert, providing a 3MBS recording engineer is available.

Please note that 3MBS has limited recording resources and volunteer recording engineers, and that recording and producing a concert to a level which is suitable for broadcast is an intensive task for our volunteers. The signing of the Recording Release Form in advance does not prevent applicants from precluding the recording from being archived to our library, but 3MBS does reserve the right to broadcast any recording made at least once, except in circumstances of technical failure or severe artistic error.

Joining the Concert Recording Team as a Recordist

Do you have an interest in classical music and experience in recording/mastering live concerts?

It's a thrill hearing a concert you have recorded on-air, and 3MBS is always looking for experienced people to join our skilled team of enthusiastic outside recording engineers to record and master live classical music performances for broadcast.

While it is preferable for you to have your own equipment, 3MBS does have a small kit of microphones, leads and a recording system that can be borrowed. Additionally, if you don’t have your own post production facilities at home, the studio at 3MBS can be used for mastering.

If you are a keen newcomer, 3MBS can provide mentoring and training in this vital aspect of our services to the fine music community.

Prospective recording engineers need:

·   some level of musical experience as either an amateur musician or avid listener and concert goer (a trained ear and a good sense for balance)

·   experience in audio recording

·   knowledge of and experience in microphone placement and mixing (set, strike and operate recording equipment)

·   ability to work to deadlines and problem-solve quickly and effectively

·   high level of communications skills to facilitate working with the artists, venue operators and concert organisers

·   be proficient in the use of computer programs for mastering and editing

·   and just maybe a sense of humour
