Internet radio describes both a type of on-line service and a physical appliance.
The service, which is also called "web radio", "net radio" and "streaming audio", is an audio service brought to your computer via the Internet.
Broadcasting on the Internet is sometimes called webcasting because the method of delivery is quite different to that of radio broadcasting. Internet radio presents listeners with a continuous "stream" of digital audio, which can be "tuned" using computer software. In this sense it is similar to the traditional idea of radio.
Many Internet radio "stations" are an extension of a "free-to-air" radio station like 3MBS. However a growing number are offering their programs solely for on-line consumption.
Internet Radio also refers to a purpose-built appliance such as the Tivoli Audio Networks.

The aacPlus audio—which is sometimes called HE-AAC—is more efficient and of higher quality than other stream types. It is not, however, as widely supported as the MP3 format we use in our standard stream.
It is possible to add aacPlus support to many popular media players. Explanations of how to do that are beyond the scope of this simple page. We suggest that you use your favorite search engine to look for terms such as: aacPlus support stream media player.
