Performance Studio

Information for Hire and Use of the Studio

Broadcasts from the 3MBS Performance Studio are becoming familiar to Melbourne’s lovers of fine music, and now the studio and its dedicated control room is available for hire for recording anything from a demo to a CD.

The fully air-conditioned studio has a fine Schimmel Konzert Grand Piano (provided by Bernie’s Music Land), and can accommodate groups up to octet size. It’s light and airy with a window to the Convent grounds, and the controlled acoustic is supportive for performers rather than totally ‘dead’.

The studio is equipped with Sennheiser and Gefell microphones and the control room has Grace preamplification and a Tascam digital desk. Installed recording software on the twin-screen Windows PC includes Pro Tools, Cubase SX2, Adobe Audition 2.0 and Reaper. Monitors are by Genelec.

The suite can be hired with or without our experienced in-house recording engineer who understands the needs of classical and acoustic musicians, whether professional or student. The studio is best suited to acoustic performances but you are welcome to visit and discuss its suitability for your particular project. The control room is also available on its own for post-production work.

Base rate is $80 per hour with engineer – piano tuning is extra at cost - but if you let us know your overall project requirements we will be happy to discuss a package deal.
