Why Subscribe to 3MBS during Radiothon?
The call for listeners to become subscribers and help keep fine music on the air in Melbourne.
Every year at this time, the only classical music radio station based in Melbourne, 3MBS, launches into Radiothon mode.  The only way for this station to survive and develop is for its listeners to pitch in and subscribe.

Radiothon 2007 is the culmination of a special time for the station. After years of searching, the station is finally in new premises at the Abbotsford Convent. St Euphrasia began life in the 1870s as a school for local children. Architect Daryl Jackson, leading a team of dedicated tradespeople, has transformed this glorious building into a state of the art media facility. And the physical legacy of this commitment and hard work is astonishing; 3 broadcast studios, a performance/recording suite complete with grand piano, volunteer facilities, huge CD library, all set amidst the stunning gardens of the Convent precinct. But it’s by no means complete, and if 3MBS is to move forward, utilising all these remarkable facilities to promote classical music and local musicians, it needs the support of listeners more than ever.

The station has grand plans: more concerts and live to air recordings, a new education program involving major educational institutions and their top students, and going to  local schools teaching young people the joys of classical music. Big plans. Plans that benefit Melbourne’s classical community.

3MBS is run by a remarkable group of over 150 volunteers and a small team of staff who all give time, energy and passion to keep the station alive. Each and every volunteer gives their time freely, whether it is as a broadcaster or buying the biscuits for afternoon tea.
3MBS does not receive government funding, they rely on events such as the Radiothon to keep going. Subscriptions provide the funds necessary to keep the station on air; to keep broadcasting fine music and run all the additional programs offered to listeners and supporters.  3MBS runs the National Composer Award, the Young Performer Award, the Live at the Convent Series, two showcase concerts and offers accredited broadcast training to some of Melbourne’s best young musicians.

3MBS wants to develop your classical habit by subscribing during the Radiothon 2007.
