Shakespeare, domestic tragedy and collaboration - 'Arden of Faversham'

In May we explore how Shakespeare developed his craft—tracing the influences, collaborations and creative choices that shaped his writing. We will focus on 'Arden of Faversham', a 1592 domestic tragedy based on a notorious historical murder. Often attributed in part to Shakespeare, the play reveals fascinating questions about collaboration, authorship and adaptation of source material. We start with an introductory talk before a group discussion with scene readings (text handouts provided).
