Now in its thirty-fifth year, the 3MBS Victorian Young Performer Award, or YPA, has remained an indispensable milestone for many aspiring musicians seeking to establish a music performance career. In collaboration with the Musical Society of Victoria, 3MBS produces this prestigious annual music competition where four finalists are adjudicated by a panel of some of Australia’s best musical artists, teachers, composers and conductors.

This vital competition has played a pivotal role in the early years of some of Australia’s leading classical artists, prompting them to pursue a professional musical career. Many of the artists we currently see on stage performing alongside Australia’s premier orchestras, and ensembles as solo artists began their musical journeys by competing in the Victorian Young Performer Award. Included in this list of luminaries are MSO cellist Rohan de Korte, soprano Kathryn Radcliffe, pianists Hoang Pham, Amir Farid and Anna Gao, violinist Leon Fei and cellist Charlotte Miles.

This invaluable experience builds the foundation of the utmost disciplined and rigorous commitment inherent in a professional classical musician. 3MBS is proud to give aspiring artists the opportunity to showcase their musical talents and take the next step toward a professional music performance career.
