This concert brings together three works inspired by Scotland and Ireland – from real places, to the politics of place. It starts with Mendelssohn's evocative Fingal's Cave, followed by a work by contemporary Irish composer Ailbhe McDonagh based on islands off the coast of Ireland; it concludes with the Gaelic Symphony by American composer Amy Beach, about the Celtic people, ‘their passions and their battles'. The orchestra is conducted by David Le Guen.
