Preston Symphony Orchestra Youth Concerto Competition

The annual Preston Symphony Orchestra Youth Concerto Competition is a dazzling showcase of Melbourne brightest young musicians. The 2026 concert on Sunday afternoon 13 September follows rehearsals for the six finalists with the orchestra and conductor David Le Guen. Each soloist plays a concerto movement of their choice: their instruments range from piano, violin, and double bass, to clarinet and marimba, and this year’s composers include Sibelius, Chopin, Grieg, Bottesini, Weber and Golovko.
