Interview with composer May Lyon

Melbourne-based composer May Lyon talked with Joel Crotty recently about her upcoming opera, Pieces of Margery, based on the challenges to a long-term partnership after Margary is diagnosed with dementia.

Lyon reveals her compositional process which includes thoroughly understanding the musicianship of the performers that are to be included in the work. Also discussed is her Double Horn Concerto, Opal, which further demonstrates her need for a coalition between composer and performers.

The concert version of Pieces of Margery will be premiered by More Than Opera with conductor Partick Burns at the Lithuanian Club, 44 Errol Street, North Melbourne on Saturday, 15 June at 7.30pm. READ MORE.
