Saturday Afternoon Concert special
In a special Saturday Afternoon Concert at 2pm on Saturday 16 November, Doug Beecroft commemorates the 100th anniversary of the first classical music radio broadcast in Melbourne on 15 November 1924.
The pianist on the occasion was Miss Myrtle Liddy, who studied honours in piano performance at the University of Melbourne.
Doug is joined by Professor Bill Russell, who in his early life was taught by Miss Liddy. Throughout the program, Doug and Bill will discuss Myrtle Liddy’s amazing musical pedigree, the history of radio broadcasting in Melbourne, and the transition from the Albert Street Conservatorium Orchestra to today’s Melbourne Symphony Orchestra—all interspersed with music relevant to the story.
