The Talent Episode 10: Henry Eames (horn) and Albert Yu (piano)

We have made it to the tenth and final heats episode of the season with performances this week by horn player Henry Eames and pianist Albert Yu playing programmes with works by Catherine Likhuta, Na’ama Tamir, Keith Humble, Haydn, and Chopin. Keep reading to learn more about Henry and Albert.

Henry Eames

Hornist

Musician and French horn enthusiast, Henry Eames has been a lover of classical ever since he picked up the instrument. He has been fortunate to be involved in many musical opportunities around the Melbourne scene as he played for companies such as Melbourne Opera and performed in venues such as the Melbourne Recital Centre and Hamer Hall. Henry is often chosen to play in the Melbourne Opera productions, the highlight so far being his involvement in the 2023 production of the critically acclaimed Ring Cycle. His desire for growth and dedication has been reflected through the many awards and scholarships he has received, some of which are the Monash Academy of Performing Arts Scholarship, Elden Hogan Outstanding Contributions to Music, Monash’s Australian Music Prize winner and Concerto Competition finalist

Albert Yu

Piano

14-year-old Albert began piano studies at the age of 4. Now in year 8 at Caulfield Grammar School, Albert received his AMusA piano award with Distinction in 2022 and is currently working towards his LMusA. Albert studies piano with renowned pedagogue Glenn Riddle, and has achieved outstanding results in both national and international competitions, including Distinction at the 30th (2023) International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition for Children and Youth in Szafarnia, Poland, as well as 1st prize in the 2023 Monash Youth Music Festival 21 years and under, and 1st prize in the 2023 Australian Polish Music Competition. Albert is an active musician at school, taking part in wind ensemble, piano trio, 6 hands piano trio and playing orchestral repertoire with piano duo. Recently, Albert was invited to perform  Haydn’s Piano Concerto No. 11 in D major with the Cloud Concert Orchestra at Robert Blackwood Hall . The composer who inspires Albert most is Frederick Chopin. In addition to being a pianist, Albert also enjoys playing percussion, achieving ABRSM Grade 8 with Distinction in 2021 and receiving many awards at the Australian Percussion Eisteddfod. Albert is also a former member of the Melbourne Youth Orchestra and chorister of the National Boys Choir.
