Melbourne in Concert presented by Allan Smith, 7pm Sunday 8 June
March of the Women was created in 2020 to celebrate International Women’s Day and Women’s History Month and was established by flautist Eliza Shephard to celebrate female composers from around the world and their “flute+” repertoire.
After five years March of the Women now represents a significant, curated collection of works by female composers worldwide, demonstrating the various ways that the flute can be used in music, and the strength and creativity that women bring to the world of music.
On Sunday 8 June we present the fourth of five monthly March of the Women live-to-air performances. 3MBS and March of the Women curator and artistic director, Eliza Shephard, are collaborating to present different ensembles and works each month, and tonight Eliza is joined by Briana Leaman (oboe), Judith Dodsworth (soprano) and Yasmin Rowe (piano)—The Melba Collective.
The Melba Collective
Brought together by the music of female composers, The Melba Collective are each engaging and giving musicians and known for their diversity and eclecticism in their various fields. They connect with art in all its forms and produce enriching and imaginative programs of music as both an ensemble and as individuals.
The Melba Collective debuted in 2024 and has a particular interest in performing the works of female composers.
