In 2010 I started at the 3MBS reception desk after I retired. I was there for twelve months, it was a very good experience doing that. I then completed the presenter course and buddied with John Barns for the concert program and Neil Appleby for the breakfast flow program.

I presented Daybreak once a fortnight for a while and currently, I host Singers and Songs on Friday evening. I also help out with recording and editing interviews which I really enjoy.

I’m less interested in playing the standard canon in classical music. I like playing lesser-known works by well-known composers or works of less-played composers.

The station is much more professional now than it was. I put that down to Alex Tsirgialos who was the program manager before Adrian McEniery. He brought a lot of knowledge about radio to the station. He had worked in London as an academic and he tidied up a whole lot of things. He introduced a lot of automation and was stricter with ending times for programs. I certainly think the station is a different one from when I started.

There are a lot of similarities between the environment that we have at 3MBS and the environment where I worked at The Age. The main difference is that here if I go to a concert or an opera, I can come into 3MBS and talk about it with someone. I can indulge my enthusiasm at 3MBS.

What a fun place it is to be. I never get up thinking ‘Oh dear I’ve got to go to 3MBS today'.

3MBS has given me a new career. I was able to retire before 60 and now I have something great to do in retirement. I love it.

There’s one thing that links us all at 3MBS and that is the love of music!
