Kawai Australia and 3MBS present the next instalment of the Kawai Live series for 2025 featuring pianist Yiyun Gu and cellist Joshua Dema.
Australian Cellist, Joshua Dema holds a Masters of Music with distinction from DePaul University (Chicago) and a Bachelor of Music from the University of Melbourne. Joshua is a casual cellist with Orchestra Victoria, and has performed internationally with numerous orchestras and chamber groups, notably including Trio Conté (Piano Trio). He performs regularly on 3MBS Melbourne 103.5FM. In 2014 Joshua was a prize winner in the Hepzibah Menuhin competition, his string quartet was a finalist in the 2014 Musica Viva Chamber Music Award.
Pianist Yiyun Gu is known for her versatility as a soloist, chamber musician, and educator. She completed her Master of Music at the University of Melbourne and has performed at major venues including the Melbourne Recital Centre, where her recital series (2018–2022) showcased her cross-cultural musical voice. A finalist in the Australian National Piano Award, she has also appeared in the China International and Lev Vlassenko Piano Competitions, and worked with many distinguished artists. Yiyun also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics, a Master’s degree in Commerce, and is completing a Master of Teaching.
