Dr Calvin Bowman in conversation with Ted Davies

Dr Calvin Bowman (right) is a distinguished composer and performer who's been prominent in Melbourne’s classical music scene for many years. A major focus has been art song composition, with his Now Touch the Air.

Softly nominated for numerous awards. Calvin is also well known for his extraordinary 17-hour marathon during the 2009 Melbourne International Arts Festival, where he performed the entire organ work of J.S. Bach in a single sitting. This feat was repeated for MONA FOMA in 2022.

In 2013 Victorian Opera commissioned and premiered his opera The Magic Pudding—The Opera (with lyrics by Anna Goldsworthy) based on Norman Lindsay’s children's book. In 2018, his first recording of art song, Real and Right and True, was released by Decca and includes thought provoking poems from Walter de la Mare to Michael Leunig.

Calvin is currently the Director of Music at St. Andrew’s Brighton.
