This week on The Talent, we welcome pianist Chloe Au and marimba player Albert Yu to 3MBS. Chloe and Albert will perform works by composers including Chopin, Debussy, Keiko Abe, and Ney Rosauro before receiving advice from our mentors. Continue reading to learn more about Chloe and Albert.

Chloe Au
13-year-old Chloe Au started learning piano with Yuko Ikeda at Suzuki Music when she was 5. She now studies piano with Prof. Glenn Riddle at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music, and is on an academic scholarship at Lauriston Girls' School. Chloe completed her AMusA exam with Distinction at the age of 10, and in 2024, she achieved a Distinction in her LMusA exam as well, with her examiner commenting that her playing was “nothing short of a world-class display of transcendental pianism and musicianship,” exhibiting “outstanding artistic authority.” She has also won numerous prizes at the Boroondara, Ringwood, Latrobe Valley, Monash, and Royal South Street Eisteddfods in Australia, as well as the VMTA Geoffrey McFerran Award. In October 2024, Chloe also won First Prize in the prestigious Bernstein National Piano Competition. She has been invited to give solo recitals at the St Paul’s Cathedral Lunchtime Concert Series, and the Diamond Creek Concert Series, as well at the Austral Salon Concert Series. In January 2025, she was also excited to be invited to perform in Kobe, Japan. Chloe also enjoys playing violin, and she is a member of the Melbourne String Ensemble, where she plays chamber music for both piano and violin.. Chloe also enjoys singing in the school choir, and her favourite pastimes are reading and skiing.

Albert Yu
Albert began studying percussion at the age of eight. He is 14 years old and is a Year 9 student at Caulfield Grammar School. Under the tutelage of Therese Ng, Albert recently achieved a pass with merit for his ABRSM LRSM percussion diploma. He has participated in MYO and Cloud Concert Youth Orchestra. Albert is active in school ensembles such as the Percussion Ensemble, Wind Ensemble and Orchestra. He has also passed the AMEB Associate of Music with distinction for piano and received many awards for his virtuosity in the Australian Percussion Eisteddfod. Through his music, Albert hopes that the tonal variety of the marimba can be accentuated and provide a unique musical perspective to the audience.
