After nine years as General Manager of 3MBS Melbourne 103.5FM, Gail Southwell has announced she will step down from the role at the end of January 2027.
As General Manager, Gail has helped 3MBS grow and evolve while preserving the strong sense of community that makes the station so special. She leaves 3MBS well positioned for the future, having made a lasting contribution through her thoughtful leadership and deep commitment to the station.
3MBS Chair Opal Ackland said the Board was deeply grateful for Gail’s exceptional contribution to the station. “Gail has led 3MBS with vision, integrity and genuine passion,” Opal said. “Under her thoughtful and dedicated leadership, the station has flourished culturally and technologically and is now in a wonderfully strong position. Gail's steady guidance and deep commitment have helped shape a welcoming, resilient and forward‑looking organisation, well placed for continued success.”
Among Gail’s many achievements are guiding the station through significant technology upgrades and securing the future of its transmission, leading its landmark 50th anniversary celebrations in 2025, and establishing the station’s Future Fund—a legacy that will help secure the vitality and independence of 3MBS for decades to come.
Gail Southwell said, “I have been extremely lucky to have led this wonderful community radio station for the last nine years, enjoying every facet of the work, including the connections I have made with the remarkable people who make up the 3MBS community. So many special moments, where music and friends have come together, have made me feel so very grateful for the role I have had here at the station. I will leave the role and this community with much sadness, but very confident that 3MBS will continue to reach new heights with a fresh and insightful leader.”
The 3MBS Board has begun the search for Gail’s successor, who will build on the strong foundations she leaves behind.
