Ioanna Salmanidis is an Australian classical pianist. She recently completed a Master of Music (Performance Studies) at the Elder Conservatorium of Music in Adelaide, under the direction of Lucinda Collins. She has previously studied with acclaimed pianists, Kristian Chong and Robert Chamberlain, and has played for notable pianists such as Max Cooke (Australia), Colin Stone (UK) and Hilary Coates (UK), among others.
An active chamber musician, Ioanna regularly performs lieder and art song with Australian tenor Douglas Kelly. Together, they have performed full song cycles by Robert Schumann and Franz Schubert, a selection of songs from Hugo Wolf’s Mörike-Lieder, as well as works by Francis Poulenc, Benjamin Britten and Frederick Delius. Ioanna is also the co-founder of Ochre Trio, a Melbourne-based chamber ensemble featuring piano, flute and clarinet, that performs contemporary classical music by Australian composers. Together with Ochre Trio she has performed the rarely heard works of Miriam Hyde and Helen Stowasser and has premiered works by Australian composers Vincent Giles and Tristan Coleman for audiences across Victoria and Tasmania.
Ioanna competed in the Sydney Lovers Piano Competition, run by the Sydney International Piano Competition in both 2020 and 2022. She was awarded a High Commendation for her performance of Franz Liszt’s Vallée d'Obermann and Esther Rofe’s The Island in the competition’s inaugural year (2020), and a Special Mention for her performance of Franz Schubert’s Impromptu in C minor, Op.90, D 899, No.1 in 2022.
Ioanna is also a producer and arts administrator and has produced education and community projects for Victorian Opera, Adelaide Festival Centre, the Adelaide Guitar Festival and the DreamBIG Children’s Festival.
