Professor Jane Davidson in conversation with Matthew Toulmin

Professor Jane Davidson is a leading figure in the world of classical music in Melbourne, where she plays a range of key roles. She is Director of the Victorian College of the Arts, University of Melbourne. She is also recognised for innovative research as Chair of the Creativity and Wellbeing initiative, where she has explored the psychosocial impact of music for older adults, and researches social and cognitive approaches to music, history of emotions, creativity and its wellbeing potential. Jane was elected as a Fellow of the Australian Academy of the Humanities in 2021 and is President of the Australian Council of Deans and Directors of Creative Arts.  

She also teaches and directs Opera Performance at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music, University of Melbourne, where she has recently directed performances of Suor Angelica by Puccini and Kurt Weill’s The Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny.
