Shanul Sharma in conversation with Doug Beecroft
Welcome to Reflections Season 1 for 2026. We hope you enjoy our first interview for the year...
Tenor Shanul Sharma has an amazing story. He was born in India and came to Australia in 2003 to study IT. He became lead singer with a heavy metal band but was blown away when he heard a recording of Luciano Pavarotti.
In 2014, he made his operatic debut with Opera Australia as Don Ramiro in Rossini's La Cenerentola. Now he’s delighting opera audiences around the world with his dazzling fireworks and radiant high notes. He gave a stunning rendition of the Australian National Anthem at the opening of the Boxing Day Cricket Test to an audience of millions earlier this year.
In October, Shanul will be making his debut with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra as the tenor soloist in Mendelssohn's Elijah, with conductor Simone Young AM and with bass-baritone Sir Bryn Terfel in the title role.
