The Talent

Since 2013 The Talent has been assisting young and emerging artists by providing live-to-air performance experience and feedback from respected industry mentors. Three artists are chosen each season to compete in a grand final with prizes including recording and performance opportunities and an Audience Choice Award. Produced by Sarah Stancombe.

Our Season Mentor, Daniel Le

Praised for his “brilliant artistry” (New York Concert Review), Australian pianist Daniel Le is renowned for his exceptional versatility as a soloist, chamber musician, and innovative artist. His performances have spanned four continents, taking him to prestigious venues including Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, Melbourne Recital Centre, Hamer Hall, Singapore’s Victoria Concert Hall, and Steinway Hall in New York.

Daniel has appeared with leading orchestras such as the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, and at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre. Following his debut with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra in 2015, he was re-engaged for two consecutive seasons. In 2019, he made his debut with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl.

His competition successes include top prizes in the Lev Vlassenko Piano Competition, Australian National Piano Award, and Kerikeri International Piano Competition, in addition to being a finalist in the Naumburg International Piano Award in New York City. Daniel’s recital appearances have earned critical acclaim at major international festivals such as the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival and Bowdoin International Music Festival. He has collaborated with musicians from world renowned ensembles including the Emerson, Brentano, Shanghai, and Miro String Quartets.

Currently the Head of Piano at Melbourne Grammar School and Artist Faculty at the Australian National Academy of Music, Daniel is in demand as an artist in residence and regularly presents exclusive masterclasses across Asia, Australia, and the United States.

He completed his studies at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music as a two time recipient of the Steven Baxter Scholarship under Prof. Thomas Hecht. He later earned both his Master’s and Doctorate degrees from the Manhattan School of Music, studying under André Michel Schub. His additional mentors include Julian Martin, Melvin Chen, and Orion Weiss.

Known for his precision, elegance, and expressive depth, Daniel’s solo recitals have taken him to iconic venues around the world, including Steinway Hall in New York, Singapore, Beijing, Melbourne, and beyond.

Our Producer, Sarah Stancombe

Sarah ​began her radio career at Radio Monash, where she became Vice President in 2024. She found joy in showcasing the work on local student musicians on air during her weekly shows, and providing performance opportunities for them through Radio Monash's events. Sarah went on to pursue an internship and continues to volunteer at Positive Media (89.9 The Light). In 2025 she began volunteering at 3MBS. Sarah studied a double degree of Arts and Music at Monash University, majoring in Archaeology & Ancient History, and Composition and Music Technology. She primarily composes for piano, releasing her first solo pieces in early 2026 after premiering them live at the opening of art exhibition Mémoire Tracjectoire in 2025. When she's not producing The Talent on 3MBS, Sarah enjoys bellringing, dancing, and studying history for her Graduate Diploma.
